Backup keys in iCloud Keychain (synchronizable items, end-to-end encrypted by Apple, readable by this app on the user’s devices). Holds keys only — never a secret: the backup file itself is in iCloud Drive. Keys are WhenUnlocked, and the native module asks for the device owner before handing one out, so the no-password backup still needs Face ID or the passcode to open. It cannot honour strict (biometrics-only) mode: a synced item can’t carry a biometric ACL.
